    Donald F. Carey

    A Top-Rated Civil Litigation Attorney

Don grew up moving around the country as a child of a Navy serviceman. In 1973, Don moved with his family from southern California to Montrose, CO, where he graduated high school in 1975. After graduating high school, Don enlisted in the Navy and served on nuclear-powered submarines. In 1980, Don received an honorable discharge from the Navy. Don returned to Colorado and attended college at what was then Mesa College, n.k.a. Colorado Mesa University, in Grand Junction, CO. While an undergrad student, Don worked in both residential and commercial construction. Don graduated from Mesa College in May of 1984.

    A Variety of Leadership Roles

Following undergrad, Don worked as a social worker with the Montrose County Department of Social Service as a Child Support Enforcement Administrator, establishing and enforcing child support orders for both AFDC recipients and community residents. He also served in a limited capacity as a group home liaison for both teenage girls and boys in what was known as the 'youth in conflict" caseload. In August of 1988, Don resigned his position with Montrose County to attend law school at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, graduating in May of 1991.

    Areas of Professional Focus

Following law school, Don accepted a position with an insurance defense law firm in Pocatello, ID and began his practice as an insurance defense attorney. His primary focus has been personal injury defense for both the personal lines and commercial lines claims.

In 1998, Don formed a new law firm and continued to practice primarily in the realm of insurance defense litigation. In August of 2017, Don formed Carey Law PLLC with his law partner Lindsey Romankiw.

Don’s practice continues to include insurance defense as a major area of focus. Don is expanding his practice areas, which now include mediation and arbitration, personal injury claims from the plaintiff’s side of the case, business formation, and real estate disputes as additional areas of focus. In May of 2017, Don was certified as a mediator.

    Outside the Attorney's Office

Don is licensed to practice law in state and federal courts in Idaho and Wyoming. He served a 3 year term and the president of the Idaho State Bar and is the immediate past president of the Idaho State Bar. He is a member of the Eagle Rock Chapter of the American Inns of Court and has served as the chapter president.

Don is a proud member of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club and has served in club leadership, including as the club president. Don is also a runner. He has completed 14 full marathons and several trail ultra-marathons, his longest being a 50-mile run on Antelope Island, Salt Lake City. He enjoys running ridiculous distances in the outdoors.
